Truman Lake


Welcome to Beautiful Truman Lake - Warsaw, Missouri

Truman Lake is located on the Osage River approximately one and a half miles northwest of Warsaw, Missouri, and was created by the Harry S. Truman Dam.  The electric power derived from the 5964 foot long dam(marketed through Southwest Power Administration) is utilized when the regular power plants supplying energy to the area are maxed out and demand peaks higher than supply can allow.  The Truman Power Plant can generate spproximately 160,000 kilowatts.

There are several types of recreation around the lake.  You can go camping fishing, swimming, hunting, horseback riding, off-roading and boating.  Camping is encouraged at their 12 campgrounds located around the Lake Truman shoreline as long as all campers follow the ruls such as:

1.  Quiet hours are between 10 pm-6am

2. All pets must be on 6 foot leashes.

3.  No more than 3 tents to a campsite or 1 wheeled camping unit and 2 tents.

4.  All vehicles must remain on paved or graveled services, not on the grass.

5.  Trash must be disposed of at the end of stay in dumpsters provided.

6.  Campground roads are ingress/egress only and are only open for licensed vehicle.

7.  Dispose of all wastewater and sewage at dump stations provided.

8.  Only dead or braches/trees already on the gound may be used for firewood.  Cutting living trees is forbidden.

9.  Fires must be contained to fire pits only.

10.  Checkout is 6 pm at the park attendant booth upon exit.

 
There are large amunts of crappie and largemouth bass available for fishing as well as a good population of blue and flathead catfish.  There are white-tailed deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbit, quail, duck and geese available for hunting.  Wearing orange and hunter education classes are strongly recommended to avoid accidents.  Missouri law requires all persons born after January 1, 1967 to complete a hunter safety education course before they can obtain a hunting license in Missouri

There are seven sand swimming beaches.  The Corps of Engineers manage six of the seven beaches.  They are open from May 15 through September 15, 8am-dusk.  Patrons must pay a fee to utilize the Corps swimming beaches and no lifeguards are provided.  Alcohol, pets, and glass containers are not permitted on the beaches.  The beaches are patroled regularly by sheriff's deputies and park rangers.

Truman Lake has almost 50 miles of hiking trails that are separated into two sections: "East" and "West".  The "West" hiking trail is for the more seasoned hiker, with high ridges and low valleys.  The "East" hiking trail, on the other hand, is more level, overlooking the lake.  Berry Bend Equestrian Campground is for horse riding only.  Berry Bend has a shower, a laundry room, a dump station for RVs, campsites, and a children's play area.  Some of the campsites have elecxtrical hookups available and several water hydrants can be found throughout the campground.  There are also corrals for the horses and some of the campsites include overhead ties for horses.  Call 877-444-6777 to make a reservation.
