Benton County is located in the state of Missouri. In 1835, the county was named after a US Senator from the state, Thomas Benton. Benton County was created from two seperate countis: Petis County (Osage River north) and Green County (Osage River south). In 1841, Petis County took back part of northwest Benton County and Kenderhook County acquired Niangua Tounship. The last change to Benton County came in 1845, when Hickory County was created from the southern section of Benton County,. Since then, however, the boundaries of Benton County have remained intact.
