Lake of the Ozarks' Past

The lake was a man-made creation by constructing a dam on the Osage River in central Missouri, on the north end of the Ozarks.  Bagnell Dam was built from 1929-1931 and is currently run by AmerenUE (formerly Union Electric Company).  The dam was originally constructed as a means of providing hydroelectric power to area customers.  But, so many people discovered the beauty of Lake of the Ozarks real estate, that it soon gained a reputation as the place to vacation for Midwesterners.  Today, more than 3 million visitors descend upon the lake each year.


Lake of the Ozarks' Education

Students liviing in Lake of the Ozarks get their public education through the Osage R-11 School District.  There are two elementary, one junior high and one private school operating amongst Lake of the Ozarks real estate.


Things to See & Do in Lake of the Ozarks

There are a myriad of fun things to see and do in the Lake of the Ozarks.  The Ha Ha Tonka State Park and Lake of the Ozarks State Park are the two state parks located amongst Lake of the Ozarks real estate.  Activities that you can enjoy here include: boating, camping, cave tours, fishing,(with proper fishing license), lodging, picnicing, swimming, hiking, equestrian trails, mountain biking and backpacking.

There are several family fun centers in the Lake of the Ozarks real estate area.  At Big Surf Waterpark, you can either splash around in their wave pool, take trips down the space bowl, float down their lazy river or take the babies to Tropical Splash Island.  Miner Mike's and Buster's Adventure Town offers hours of enjoyment with their Miner's Maze, Mine Train Coaster, Chuck Wagon Ferris Wheel and Gold Mine Bumper Cars.  You can play on either the two 18 hole miniature golf courses at Putt'N'Stuff Family Fun Center, as well as playing with bumper cars and go carts.  You can enjoy a three story Ozark wilderness at Timber Falls Indoor Waterpark, located in the Tan-Tar-A Resort, Golf Club, Marina & Waterpark.  There is a treehouse with a huge six foot wide wooden bucket at the top.  The tree house has suspension bridges, water blasters and other interactive water fun.

For equestrian enthnusiasts, Broken Gait is the place for you!  They provide seasonal horses for a scenic ride throughout Central Missouri.  They offer you the unique opportunity to experience Missouri's natural beauty in a ;most natural way - by horseback!  They offer one hour rides, but have longer ride4s that include a lunch break out on the trail.  NOr horse and no experience necessary.

Golf enthusiasts can rejoice in the availability of eight golf courses in the Lake of the Ozarks real estate area.  These courses range from public to private and accommodate all skill levels.

There are also a few museums that may be of interest to visitors and inhabitants of Lake of the Ozarks real estate.  Miller County Museum provides an authentic look at central Missouri society and its Native American heritage.  The Morgan County Museum is located at the Martin Hotel on the Square in Versailles.  All 28 rooms of the hotel area decorated in different thems that include a chapel room, a school room and the Miss Lucy room (in honor of the last surviving Martin family member).  The National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church features the Mothers' Wall of Life that contains names of mothers carved in black granite from all walks of life (regardless of race, color, or creed).  The Orion Science Center has attractions such as space exhibits from the St. Louis Science Center and the Bone Room, that features a life-size cast of the head of Stan, the T-Rex.

Of course, it goes without saying for water lovers, all kinds of water sports fun can be had on Lake of the Ozarks, the largest liquid playground around....if you love to swim, fish, ride a wave runner or jet ski, ride a wake board, go skiing, boating, or sun bathing, this is certainly the place to be!  An incredible place to make memories with family and friends!
